Reverend David PlantReverend David Plant is a native of Ohio. Born and raised in Akron, Dave’s familiarity with Defiance began during his college years. He and his wife Marian, met at Defiance College, graduating in 1973. After college they attended the United Methodist Theological Seminary in Delaware Ohio, graduating in 1977. They have two grown boys, Joel and Jordan. Joel resides in Defiance while Jordan and his wife Juanita live in Richmond Virginia. Because David has served churches in 20 communities and participated in many different community/area based groups, sitting on the Board of Directors of groups like United Ways, Community Food Pantry’s, Jail Ministry Agencies, a Mental Health Board, a Red Cross Board, and being elected to Glen Ellyn district #41 School board it was not at all unusual for him to find ways to begin to serve the Defiance Community once he returned to the area. His first efforts started with the college as an adjunct faculty member and women’s golf coach while he continued to serve churches in Lima and then Toledo. In 2007 he began full time work at the college as Director of Alumni and Parent Relations. David then said yes to being appointed to the Defiance Public Library System Board of Trustees. In the time David served on the board he was Personnel Chair and a member of the Finance Committee. The board also had to deal with two rounds of severe budget cuts and passed a much needed levy to keep the system stable. David was elected to the City Council with a pledge to keep forward thinking at the center of his interests in council activities and a desire to be of service to the community that he and Marian have made their home. He is looking forward to serving Defiance and its residents. He does accept email at revdplant@defiance.edu and you may look him up in the phone book if you want to reach him at home.
