Joe EuresteJoe was first elected to City Council in November 2001. He is presently serving his second term as an at-large councilman, after being reelected in November of 2005. Prior to being elected to council, Joe served two-terms as a member of the Defiance City Board of Education. In 1996 he was elected board president. Joe is a 1972 graduate from Defiance High School. Upon graduation he began his employment with GM/Powertrain. As an employee he pursued a college education attending Defiance, Adrian and Northwest State Community colleges. In 1980 he was appointed as a GM/UAW benefits Plans representatives. His work responsibility for GM in this appointment is to serve the contractual concerns of active and retired UAW, Local 211 members. Over the years, Joe has attended numerous leadership and professional programs for his employer GM/Powertrain, his union affiliation-UAW, Local 211 and as a member of city council. In June of 2006, Joe successfully completed the 40 credit workshop requirements for certification by the Ohio Municipal League for its Municipal Leadership Training Academy. The MLTA is a voluntary continuing education program established to encourage and recognize the efforts of local elected officials to become effective governmental leaders. As a council member, Joe serves as Chairman of the Sewer Committee, member of Economic Development Committee, Tax Incentive Review Council and the Traffic Commission. Outside of his council duties, Joe serves as the Chairman of the Defiance Area UAW-CAP Council, legislative member of the Ohio Economic Development Association, member of the United Way of Defiance County Board of Trustees and a member of the Defiance Community Cultural Council Board of Trustees. Eureste has previously served as a board member of the Defiance Area YWCA, Defiance County/Defiance City School Business Advisory Council, Defiance 2000 mentoring program, Junior Achievement of Northwest Ohio, president of Defiance Athletic Boosters, vice president of Women and Family Services and was a head coach of Defiance Junior High seventh-grade football team.
