Permits
The following permits, forms, and drawings can be downloaded by clicking on the appropriate name. However, the completed forms and permits MUST be returned to the Engineering Division, 631 Perry Street, Suite 102, Defiance, along with proper payment (if applicable) to be processed.

Applying for a Permit
Discuss proposed needs with one of the engineering staff members so that the correct permit is applied for. An engineering staff member will advise you of the proper City construction specifications for working within the street right of way. The permit fee will be calculated and relayed to you.
Properly fill out permit and pay the permit fee. Permit is approved once signed by the City Engineer.

Steps Contractor Takes Once Notified of an Approved Permit
Water Tap and Meter
- Extend the building water service to the agreed upon location by the street.
- The City water crew will then tap the City water main, run a service line, install a curb stop valve and box, and attach to your building service line.
- Once the City's plumbing inspector has approved the building's plumbing, the City's Meter people will install the meter.
Sanitary Sewer Tap
The contractor shall notify Engineering (at least 48 hours in advance) for an inspection prior to covering the sewer service.
Storm Sewer/Drainage
The contractor shall notify Engineering (at least 48 hours in advance) for an inspection prior to covering the sewer service.
Drive Approach (Curb Cut)
The contractor shall notify Engineering (at least 48 hours in advance) pouring concrete for an inspection of forms, grade, and final approval to proceed.
Sidewalk
The contractor shall notify Engineering (at least 48 hours in advance) pouring concrete for an inspection of forms, grade, and final approval to proceed.
Opening in the Right of Way
Prior to closing of the opening in the right of way, the contractor shall notify Engineering (at least 48 hours in advance) for the appropriate inspections. |
