Police Programs

Neighborhood Watch
The Neighborhood Watch Program allows for citizens to take an active part in the safety of their neighborhoods. It allows neighbors to become better aquainted with each other and with Law Enforcement Officers.

watchThe program lets neighbors take ownership by watching out for each other and their property. The Police Department will be glad to assist in forming a Neighborhood Watch in your neighborhood.

Should you wish to look into a Neighborhood Watch, please contact the Community Relations Officer, Chief Tobias, at 784-5050 or via email and he will be glad to help you.

Third Grade Seat Belt Safety Program
The program is funded by the State of Ohio's Department of Public Safety and is designed to teach every third grader the virtues of wearing a seat belt at all times when riding in an automobile as well as the dangers of air bags when not wearing a seat belt.

This program is approximately 40 minutes in length and has been taught by the Defiance Police Department since 1995. Norm Walker currently teaches the class. E-mail Chief Tobias.

Welcoming Committeewelcome
The Welcoming Committee Program was devised by retired Sgt. Larry Hall to welcome new residents to the City of Defiance. The Chief of Police periodically receives a list of new residents moved and compiles a packet of information which will help the new resident(s) become acclimated to Defiance. These packets are hand delivered to the resident(s) by officers of the Defiance Police Department who welcomes them into the city.
