Pavement Maintenance

The Streets Division is responsible for much of the pavement marking that is done in the city. Examples of what they paint are cross walks, stop bars, parking stalls, handicap stencils, turning lanes and legends as well as school zones. Each year more than 300 gallons of paint are applied for these types of markings. Crosswalks, stop bars and school zones are painted on an annual basis. All other markings are painted every other year.

The City maintains over 200 miles of streets. Every year at least $450,000 is allocated for resurfacing of streets. The Street Division plays a vital role in the selections of the streets to be resurfaced.

Annually there is $25,000 allocated for the purpose of pavement crack sealing. The Street Division has a program in place to do pavement repairs also. Work completed under this program consists of repairs after curb inlet construction, water main breaks or distressed pavement sections not feasible to be included in the resurfacing program. Annually, $10,000 is budgeted toward this program.
