Waste Water Treatment Operation & Maintenance
Plant Operations
Plant treatment processes and equipment must also be physically checked and monitored to ensure that wastewater treatment standards are maintained and equipment is functioning at peak efficiency. Here a Wastewater Plant Operator checks and records heat exchanger temperature readings in the anaerobic Digester Building.

Monitoring and Control
Treatment plant processes are monitored and controlled by a modern computer-based instrumentation and control system. Here the Chief Wastewater Plant Operator (seated) and a Wastewater Plant Operator are shown checking the status of the plant’s secondary treatment process using the control room computer terminal. This system monitors wastewater flows entering and leaving the plant, the status of the 19 pump stations located throughout the city and also provides printed daily reports of plant and pump station operating data.

Laboratory
The plant’s raw wastewater, process streams, and treated effluent must be constantly monitored to ensure that the treatment processes are operating efficiently and that mandated wastewater quality standards are met on a consistent basis. Here the Water Pollution Control Chemist performs microscopic wastewater analysis in the Division’s modern laboratory facility.
Plant Maintenance
Water Pollution Control personnel are responsible for the care and maintenance of the wastewater plant facility and equipment.
